Guided inshore redfishing in the Barataria marsh on the Gulf Coast, less than an hour from New Orleans. Morning and evening trips every day.
Why Barataria
Barataria sits in one of the Gulf Coast's great estuaries: miles of marsh, bayous, ponds and bays between the Mississippi River and Bayou Lafourche. Redfish live here all year, and the shallow, protected marsh gives them plenty of places to feed. It's one of Louisiana's best-known places to chase redfish, and it's less than an hour south of New Orleans.
Your Redfish Guide
We fish the protected inshore marsh, bayous and bays of Barataria instead of the open Gulf. That means a shorter ride, calmer water and more time with a line in.
Your captain reads the tide, wind and water clarity to find where the redfish are feeding that day. First-timers and seasoned anglers are both welcome.
Rods and tackle are provided. Bring your fishing license if you're 18 or older, snacks and drinks in a cooler, and sun protection.
Priced per boat, per trip: $600 for 1 to 2 people and $700 for 3 people. Bigger groups go out on more boats, and 4 or more on one boat is a custom quote. Morning and evening trips run every day of the week.
Through the Year
As the water warms, redfish spread through the marsh and push into the shallows to feed. Both morning and evening trips can be good.
Early mornings and evenings are the most comfortable times to fish in the heat, and redfish keep feeding in the marsh all summer. We run both, every day.
Many Louisiana anglers call fall the best redfish season. Fish feed hard before winter, and big bull reds move through the outer bays and passes.
Cooler, clearer water pulls redfish into the ponds and bayous, which can mean great sight fishing on calm, sunny days.
Every season is a little different. Tell us when you want to come, and we'll tell you what to expect.
Keepers
Redfish over 27 inches, the bull reds, go back in the water. Captain and crew can't keep redfish on a charter trip. Anyone 18 or older needs a saltwater license: see Louisiana fishing licenses.
